I can’t afford a professional ADD coach — who can these days? But I’m a big do-it-yourselfer, So I’m giving this self-coaching program a shot. As described in the book itself, “giving a shot” means weeks or even months…typical for ADDers is that they start things and quickly discard them after little observation of the benefits. So, here I am.
My attention now turns to: Attention Deficit Disorder
I was diagnosed a year ago with ADD — the inattentive type, not the bouncing-off-the-walls type. I thought that counselling for the depression and obtaining meds would “solve” it for me…but alas, I had not done my homework and only learned recently about the various ways in which ADD can affect the quality of your life and your ability to function.
As a result, I started a self-coaching program, given that I can’t afford actual coaching with a licensed professional. It’s a lot of difficult work, an uphill climb…but I really need to do this for myself.
One of the important elements of developing a system to manage ADD symptoms is accountability. I’ve got an important person in my life who will do what he can, but as a second option, I have decided to dedicate this blog to my experiences in living — and learning to live well — with ADD.
Don’t worry, I’ll still goof off and post interesting things, as well as forwarding others’ posts related to my interests (and hopefully my readers’ interests).
Those of you who have the same struggle, or who are knowledgeable in this disorder, are welcome to post your thoughts, ideas and encouragement.
Thank you,
murasaki
If you use Chrome (and you should, because it’s awesome) and are learning a foreign language, you should definitely install this extension. What does it do?
Polyglot [the name of the extension] translates randomly selected words on the sites you visit into a language of your choice, allowing you to learn and practice foreign vocabulary while you browse the Internet.
So if you’re studying Russian, you can set it to translate 1 out of every 20 words from English to Russian. And you can hover your mouse cursor over the word to see the English version. Very cool.
Earlier this week I published a list of free Kindle books that were related to language learning. I’ve decided to make that a thing, and I’ll be updating the list every day. Today there are materials in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Hindi, Indonesian, and English. Go check them out and download them ASAP. Most of them are free for today only.
